WOMAN’S CLUB HELPS AFRICAN GIRLS

The Laguna Niguel Woman’s Club recently hosted a western barbecue, raising $2,000 for Huru, a nonprofit organization created by Elton John to benefit teen girls in African countries. In several African cultures, menstruating girls are unable to attend school because they had no means of protection. Through Huru, which pays women in the villages to make washable sanitary pads, girls are given a kit containing pads, soap, underwear and information about HIV.
